Celebrating 10 Years of CNCF at the #cTENcf Birthday Bash in Sri Lanka 🎉

On 18th September, I joined the Sri Lankan cloud-native community at the WSO2 Auditorium to celebrate a big milestone – the 10th birthday of the Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF)! The event, organized by Kubernetes Sri Lanka, was filled with tech talks, fun analogies, and (of course) birthday cake 🎂.

The evening started with opening remarks from Chamod Perera and Kemila De Silva, who set the stage with reflections on CNCF’s journey over the past decade and the impact of cloud-native technologies on the developer ecosystem.

🦇 Session 1: When Batman Needs ArgoCD to Save Colpetty

The first session was led by Kaveesha Gimhana, who put a creative spin on GitOps and ArgoCD. Instead of Gotham, he brought the story closer to home – Colpetty!

Kaveesha’s talk wasn’t just theory; he backed it up with a live demo and even shared his repo for the community: github.com/KaveeshaG/batman-colpetty-dem. It was a fun way to show how tools like ArgoCD can bring order to the chaos of deployments.

⚡ Session 2: Developer Experience on Kubernetes with OpenChoreo

Next up, Jhivan De Benoit and Vajira Jayasrimal from WSO2 took the stage. They focused on a topic every developer cares about – experience.

Their session, “Developer Experience on Kubernetes: How OpenChoreo Bridges the Gap”, dived into how OpenChoreo simplifies Kubernetes workflows. Think of them as the Alfreds of our Batcaves, making sure developers can focus on innovation instead of wrestling with YAMLs.

🤖 Session 3: From Zero to AI, and Everything Kubernetes in Between

Finally, Rukshan J. Senanayaka closed the evening with his inspiring journey, titled “From zero to AI, and everything Kubernetes in between.”

He took us through his personal experiences – how he started with Kubernetes, scaled into more complex use cases, and eventually tied it all to the world of AI. It was both a technical deep-dive and a motivational story for anyone navigating the cloud-native world.

🎂 The Sweet Ending

No birthday bash is complete without cake! After the sessions, everyone gathered to cut a giant cake, marking 10 years of CNCF and a decade of progress in cloud-native computing.

It was the perfect way to wrap up an evening that blended learning, community, and celebration.

💡 Final Thoughts

The #cTENcf Birthday Bash wasn’t just about looking back on the last 10 years of CNCF – it was also about looking forward. From GitOps to developer experience to AI, the talks highlighted how cloud-native technologies are shaping the future.

A big shoutout to Kubernetes Sri Lanka, the speakers, and the entire community for making this event such a memorable one. Here’s to another decade of cloud-native innovation! 🚀
